Once we have receive an instrument, we begin by thoroughly inspecting it
Then, as we see the need, we replace pads where necessary. eg: if the pad does not seal, has a split skin, or is dried out
We follow the guidance of legendary clarinet craftsman Hans Moennig, which is that old pads should be left alone when covering well
The tenon cork and key cork is replaced where necessary
We inspect the springs for proper tension
All tone holes are cleaned
All mouthpieces are sanitized
All cases are cleaned inside and out
Additionally, on a case by case basis, we may:
Strip the instrument
Oil the bore on wood clarinets
Polish the keys and the rings
Finally we play-test each instrument to ensure that every note, from low E to the altissimo range plays properly.
We do this twice...once when the instrument leaves the shop and again, just before we pack it for shipping.
